superME for Earth

This page features the reflections and insights of eight children, ages 8 to 14, who engaged in an afternoon of group discussions, impromptu performances, and journaling on themes of self-discovery, self-appreciation, and connection to nature. Along with their personal reflections, you’ll find the prompts that guided the conversations. Some of the children’s thoughts are expressed through photographs and doodles, while others have been translated into sketch notes.

Close your eyes and think about your reflection in the mirror. What’s your favourite thing about your appearance?

"That I have eyes" - Abeer

Think about the objects at home or objects that belong only to you. If you could pick any six, which ones would you pick?

Let’s think about a time you did something kind for yourself, another person, animal, or place, that made you feel really good.

What made you do these kind things?

What were you thinking when you chose to be kind?

How does it feel when you act out of kindness?

What do you think kindness says about a person?

Let’s try to act out our favourite things from nature. Have you ever seen these things being harmed in any way? Can you show how the harm might look, and share how it makes you feel?

If you could do something to protect these things, what would you do? Share your ideas.

Choose one idea to protect your natural thing—this will be your mission.

To achieve it, take a look at the notes you've written in your diary. Pick one or two ideas or thoughts from each page that stand out to you.

Now, let’s imagine these thoughts and ideas as superpowers that will help you achieve your mission. For example, select an object and imagine it as a "superobject" with special features that support your mission. You can also reimagine your inner strengths and hobbies as "superstrengths" and "superabilities."

"My inner strength is being positive and innovative. With this as a superstrength, I could grow organic food." – Daniella

"I feel that the Earth is overpopulated, and my immediate thought is to control the population. But one of my inner strengths is that I am a good person, and if this were a superstrength, I could inspire others to be good as well." – Eli

"I love doing aerial. If I imagined a superself, I’d have the power to connect with plants while doing aerial, allowing me to communicate with them and protect them from harm." – Naija

"I love photography. With every photo I take of a water body, the water would be cleaned." – Dayani

"I would compose and play songs on my guitar that could convince people to stop using plastic." – Orion

"I love playing and organizing football matches. I would sponsor and create reusable plastic equipment for football matches around the world." – Abeer

"I want to save marine animals, and I’m really good at football. I think I’d teach marine animals football to help them become strong and fend for themselves." – Arhan

"I would host football celebrations around the world to spread awareness about not throwing plastic." – Arjun
