A journal for ordinary creatives

Maru Mori

At Maru Mori, we share stories that make sense of our ordinary, everyday existence - its inconveniences, its joys, its simplicity, its creativity, its heartbreak - and everything in between. We want to open ourselves up to new forms of meaning-making and world-making - full of difference, of otherness, of registers, tones, textures, words and colours. This, we believe, is a crucial exercise in a fraught, rapidly changing, often heartbreaking world. How do we, as ordinary creatives, understand and remake our world? What is ordinary? What is simple? What is heartbreaking? What is a thing, even? We’ll stop here for now to hear your ramblings, jottings, doodles, hummings, and murmurs about the heartbreaking simplicity of ordinary things. Maru Mori.

Open Call

For our inaugural issue, we are soliciting contributions around the theme of “Living with/in Tech”. We ask how technology becomes ordinary, as it becomes a part of our everyday life, and how AI reshapes this familiarity.

Featured Story

In Sonal Varshneya’s work, everyday moments surface as observations - drawn from memory, sometimes from habit, and at times from things that don’t quite go as expected. Each piece sits with a feeling, a pause, or a small contradiction within daily life.
